Sinus Augmentation
A sinus augmentation, also known as a sinus lift, is a bone grafting procedure used to increase bone height in the upper back jaw when there is not enough natural bone available for dental implants. This area is located near the maxillary sinus, an air-filled space above the upper molars and premolars.
After tooth loss, the sinus can gradually expand while the surrounding bone becomes thinner over time. A sinus augmentation helps rebuild this area by gently lifting the sinus membrane and placing bone grafting material beneath it to create additional support for future dental implants.
Depending on the amount of existing bone, dental implants may sometimes be placed at the same time as the sinus augmentation. In other cases, a healing period is recommended before implant placement to allow the grafted bone to mature properly.
Sinus augmentation procedures are routinely performed in our office using local anesthesia, with sedation options available for patient comfort.
