Common implant questions
What can I use while my implants heal?
Several temporary tooth replacement options are available during healing, including removable temporary teeth, temporary bridges, or modified dentures. In certain situations, temporary teeth may be placed on the same day as implant surgery.
How long do dental implants last?
Dental implants are designed to be a long-term solution for missing teeth. As long as they are maintained in a healthy manner, they should hopefully outlast you. Just like natural teeth, implants can fail if they are not properly cared for, but with good home care and routine maintenance, they have an excellent long-term success rate.
Occasionally, mechanical complications such as wear or fracture of the crown or restoration can occur over time. This does not necessarily mean the implant itself has failed, and these components can often be repaired or replaced when needed.
When are the final teeth attached to the implants?
Final crowns, bridges, or dentures are typically attached approximately 3–4 months after implant placement. In some situations involving more substantial grafting or complex treatment, additional healing time may be recommended before the final restoration is completed.
How do I care for my implants?
Dental implants should be cared for much like natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and professional maintenance visits. Water flossers can be especially helpful around dental implants, and in some cases antimicrobial rinses may also be recommended. The tissues around implants are different than natural teeth, so proper home care techniques are important and will become easier with time and guidance from your dental team.
Will one doctor complete all of my treatment?
Implant treatment is often completed collaboratively. Dr. Dkeidek performs the surgical phase and ensures the implants heal properly and remain stable, while your restorative dentist completes the final crown, bridge, or denture that attaches to the implants.
Every patient’s situation is unique, and treatment recommendations are customized to your individual goals, anatomy, and long-term oral health needs. We are always happy to answer any questions and help guide you through each step of the process.
