Ridge Augmentation
What is a ridge augmentation?
Ridge augmentation is a bone grafting procedure used to rebuild areas of the jaw where bone loss has occurred following tooth loss, extraction, trauma, or infection. Over time, the jawbone can shrink in both height and width, which may affect appearance and limit the ability to place dental implants.
During the procedure, bone grafting material is placed in the area of deficiency to help restore the natural contour of the jaw and create a more stable foundation for future treatment. In some cases, special membranes or space-maintaining materials may also be used to support healing and bone regeneration.
Ridge augmentation is commonly performed at the time of tooth extraction or as a separate procedure prior to dental implant placement. Treatment is typically completed in our office using local anesthesia, with sedation options available for patient comfort.
